A Freudian Take on a New Exhibition
by Mike Adams, 1st-year IDSVA student
As I continue through IDSVA’s PhD program, I’ve had the interesting experience of revisiting my own artwork with a better way of articulating the ideas behind it. An artist is usually asked to write an artist’s statement for an exhibition, and in the past it was something that I dreaded. Why write about work that is right there, under the viewer’s nose? Now, though, in spite of the danger of influencing a viewer’s experience unduly, I find that I am writing to myself in a sense. I am writing to reach the confluence where art and ideas converge and where they continue to develop together.
