New book publication by Paul Armstrong, IDSVA visiting faculty and dissertation director

It’s a great pleasure to announce the publication of longstanding IDSVA visiting faculty member Paul Armstrong’s How Literature Plays with the Brain: The Neuroscience of Reading and Art (Johns Hopkins UP).

Advancing the interdisciplinary relations of art and science, this book will stand as an important contribution to the new frontiers of neuroaesthetics and neuro-criticism.

The Preface reads in part: “I have always learned as much from my students as I have taught them, and this book in particular owes much to conversations about neorophenomenology with Jen Hall, whose own work in neuroaesthetics I have had the privilege to supervise through the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts.”
