On the Doctoral Dissertation
by Bob Carroll, 4th year IDSVA student
When friends, acquaintances, or family members ask me what writing a doctoral dissertation requires or what my dissertation requires, I usually begin by saying…
and passionate curiosity!
That initial answer is true and more vividly universal than attempting to articulate how my specific dissertation requires of me a refined, step-by-step explication of distinct yet simultaneously interwoven strands of philosophical intertexual concepts, phenomenological methodologies, sensibilities to the numinous in image consciousness, respect for the creative process, and a native love of art. Passionate curiosity, in my humble opinion, fuels the other elements.
