The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts is proud to host the second part of the year-long symposium: On the Anthropocene: Either/Or, launched in spring 2021, with a series of lectures by renowned theorists and philosophers.
PACT 2021: The 12th Annual Meeting of the Pacific Association for the Continental Tradition (PACT). The conference is being held at Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiʻi. September 9-11, 2021
We are saddened by the passing of Jean-Luc Nancy (July 26, 1940--August 23, 2021), one of the most important French philosophers of the second half of the twentieth century. During our residency in Paris in 2018 and again in the summer of 2020, he delivered lectures concerning art, community, ecology, and contemporary society.
We are pleased to announce that several lectures from spring and summer 2021 are now available to view on Vimeo.
The grant will fund the creation of a new sculpture the cataloging, preservation and digitization of prominent archives in the field of African American art.
IDSVA makes a strong showing at the 109th Annual College Art Association (CAA) conference The virtual conference (including Q&A sessions) will take place February 10-13, 2021.
This year's (virtual) winter residency featured a series of three lectures throughout the week. As with every IDSVA lecture, students were asked to "formulate the question" in advance of Q&A. With each Q&A session, the lecturer and the students "took a seat at the table" and continued the ongoing construction of the history of ideas.
“IDSVA has shaped my awareness and thinking in a way I could not have imagined. Before IDSVA, I thought of art as the exclusive domain of practicing artists, or the stuff in galleries and museums; now I think of an all-encompassing aesthetic life that continues to inform me as a human being.”
Dr. Conny Bogaard, IDSVA PhD ’15
