Job Listing – PT Faculty

The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA) seeks part-time faculty to direct Independent Studies and Dissertations. A PhD is required. The ideal candidate for these positions should be published and well versed in Continental philosophy, art theory, and critical thinking. The ability to work across disciplines is key, and contemporary art world experience a plus.

Independent Studies consist of academic papers of publishable quality students write in the second year of the course of study. Dissertations are distinct theoretical contributions to a given topic students write after completing the three-year course of study. Independent Studies and Dissertations are conducted long-distance over fall and spring semesters.

Honorarium is $1000 per Independent Study per semester, and $750-1000 per dissertation per semester (minimum 4 semesters per dissertation).

IDSVA is a doctoral program for artists and likeminded creative practitioners. IDSVA offers a low-residency, non-studio course of study consisting of three annual residencies and ongoing online education. The curriculum is focused on the Continental tradition in philosophy, aesthetics, and art theory, leading to a scholarly written dissertation. IDSVA was founded in 2007 and currently has an enrollment of roughly 65 students distributed across the three years of the course of study and the dissertation period.
